Know What You Really Truly Like

Separate from expectations, stigmas, social peacockery, and any pervading eyes of others, make a list of things you really, truly enjoy. Large or small. What remains when no one’s watching?

  • A hobby.
  • A specific author.
  • The smell of someone’s hair.
  • The sound of animals drinking.
  • A certain bird’s call.
  • Purple and rainbows.
  • Sun warming your skin. (Thomas Jefferson called the Sun his “almighty physician”.)
  • Spitting outdoors.
  • Peeing outdoors.
  • Very tall trees.
  • Throwing rocks.
  • Someone’s voice.

“Of any activity you do, ask yourself: If I were the last person on earth, would I still do it?”

~Steven Pressfield, The War of Art (Book)
